Lynk & Co Vietnam's November Incentive: Where the Real Discount Is and Where the Marketing Noise Begins
Lynk & Co Vietnam has announced a customer purchase incentive programme, 'An tam khoi hanh', running from 1 November to 30 November. The company claims that buyers of five models — the 02, 03/03+, 06, 08 Halo and 900 — will receive benefits valued at up to 24 to 35 million Vietnamese dong during this one-month window. What matters is that the benefit is not presented as a cut in the list price, but as a sum of separately valued add-ons. The condition is singular and clear: the purchase contract, the payment and the invoice must all be completed within November.
The models for which the company has published a price are as follows. The 06 city SUV is listed at 689 million dong. The 03 C-segment sport sedan is listed at 788 million dong. The 08 Halo plug-in hybrid, tagged as a 2026 model year, is listed at 1.389 billion dong. The flagship 900 SUV is listed at 3.069 billion dong. For the fifth model, the electric 02, the company disclosed no list price at all. This is the first point at which transparency breaks down, because without a price, no discount comparison is possible.
The more important question is how large the benefit actually is. Measured as effective depth against list price, the 50 per cent registration-fee waiver on the 06 works out to roughly 34.5 to 41.3 million dong — about five to six per cent of list price. The 03 carries 24 million dong, three times eight million, or about 3.05 per cent. The 08 Halo carries 35 million dong, about 2.52 per cent. Those three calculations are straightforward. But the 02 is credited with 26 million dong of benefit and no price, so no percentage can be derived; and on the 900, no monetary total is stated at all.
What that stack is actually made of is the real story. On the 06, the benefit is registration-fee support. On the 03, it is three years of film, a dashcam, floor mats and one year of insurance — each item valued at eight million dong. On the 02, it is a charger at five million, a six-year or 120,000 km maintenance package at 12 million, and insurance at nine million. On the 08 Halo, a charger at five million, maintenance at 16 million and insurance at 14 million. In other words, only the 06's benefit behaves like cash; everything else is service, accessory or insurance.
What that stack costs the company is the crucial question, and the source does not answer it. All three partners — the VETC toll account, Carpla for aftersales and used cars, and Tasco body insurance — are assets of the distributor group itself. The 'converted value' therefore moves largely from one hand to another inside the same group rather than leaving the treasury as cash. The true cost of items booked at eight, twelve, fourteen and sixteen million dong at retail is very likely materially lower.
There is a further detail. Across the entire programme, only the petrol-powered 06 receives registration-fee support; the electric 02 does not. The likely reason is the tax structure. Vietnam is reported to apply a zero per cent registration fee to electric vehicles through early 2027, although that figure is not independently verified here. If so, offering fee support on an electric car would be a redundant giveaway, and a charger plus maintenance was substituted instead.
The most conspicuous silence is around the 900. Every other model carries a figure in dong; the 3.069 billion dong flagship carries none. Instead it gets six years or 80,000 km of maintenance, Carpla care, chargers and a one-million-dong VETC toll account. Luxury buyers respond to continuity of service rather than a discount number, and attaching a price tag to a flagship cheapens the brand itself.
Supply status is the clearest tell of the strategy. The 03+ and 09 are described as available for immediate delivery, meaning they are in stock. The 01 continues to take orders, but the company does not publish a delivery time — only the sales representative discloses it privately. That open-ended lead time usually points to uncertainty over an import batch or a specification change. And the 08 Halo is explicitly labelled 'VIN 2026', an unmistakable signal of model-year rollover.
From a regulatory standpoint the risk sits in the medium band. Vietnamese trade-promotion rules set a cap of roughly 50 per cent of the pre-promotion price; the deepest discount here is about six per cent, well clear of that standard. The real concerns are two. First, the 'converted value' claims have no independent valuation behind them. Second, the 'invoice within November' condition directly affects the registration-fee base and the receipt date, which provincial tax authorities may question.
The commercial risk is equally direct. A one-month window usually means demand is being pulled forward from December rather than created. Once the incentive ends, demand falls sharply, and that fall shows up in January's numbers. The requirement to sign, pay and invoice inside the same month is a cash-collection device to book revenue within the period — it looks like a distributor chasing a calendar-year or importer target.
The largest absence is outcome data. The entire announcement contains not one sales figure, not one dealer count, no market share, no order backlog. Every number given is offer-side, none is result-side. The pricing is incomplete too: the 02's list price and the 900's total benefit are both missing, which makes cross-model comparison impossible even on the company's own terms.
A further consequence is that the intensity of the incentive cannot be benchmarked. Whether an effective discount of 2.5 to 6 per cent is aggressive or routine in this Vietnamese segment cannot be established without a baseline. Just as absent is any competitor brand name, which makes a positioning map impossible to construct.
What remains clear is that this is a single programme run across a wide portfolio — four powertrains and more than five nameplates — without touching list prices. The price tag stayed intact, so brand price discipline survived while metal can still move. But where the real discount lies will be revealed not by this release, but by December and January sales data.
